Connessioni 2025: Shaping Peace and Security Through Youth Engagement, Cagliari

From 19 to 23 October 2025, youth workers, educators and policymakers from all over Europe came together in Cagliari (Sardinia) to take part in Connessioni 2025 – the event dedicated to Human Rights, Peace and Security. It was organized by Regione Autonoma della Sardegna, Fondazione di Sardegna, and TDM2000 International and aimed to further develop Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) agenda according to UN Security Council Resolution 2250.

This was the third edition of the successful Connessioni series of events; the previous edition in 2024 included 180 participants from 24 countries.

From Dialogue to Action

Connessioni 2025 dealt with such critical topics as social inequality, conflict, digital rights and environmental sustainability. However, unlike other conferences, it concentrated on translating ideas into actions by involving participants in the following:

  • Involving youth in peacebuilding through the creation of inclusive spaces for dialogue and feedback.

  • Developing the capacities of non-profit organizations and youth organizations through interactive workshops and innovative instruments.

  • Advocating the YPS agenda, as youth are enabled to participate in policy-making at local, national and European levels.

  • Promoting intercultural exchange and drawing attention to the rich culture of Sardinia;

  • Collaborating through networking and co-design of projects.

Supporting those who work directly with youth, Connessioni 2025 helped in creating a safe space for dialogue and exchange of experiences for young people.

Cagliari as a Meeting Point

Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia, turned out to be a perfect location for the event. Known for its rich history, vibrant culture and Mediterranean spirit, this city created an inspiring atmosphere for professionals with different backgrounds. The multicultural spirit of the place enabled ideas to grow and relationships to strengthen.

Living and learning together became one of the main elements of the event. Cultural evenings, informal discussions and intercultural events provided an opportunity to go beyond professional networking and establish a connection. One of them, namely, the intercultural nights, allowed all participants to express their personal, regional and national culture through food, music, storytelling and artistic expression.

Peacebuilding Starts with Connection

One of the main ideas of Connessioni was that peace and security cannot be disconnected from communities. Supportive networks, active participation and a feeling of belonging are vital both for individuals and for the community.

For the participants, Connessioni 2025 was not just a source of knowledge,  it was a great opportunity to think and listen to each other and experience the power of an inclusive group. Such shared experiences were meant to be translated into actions and initiatives for young people in local communities.

The event reflected the mission of TDM2000 International and its partners by using non-formal education, cultural dialogue and civic engagement to make society more inclusive and peaceful.

A Global Network with Local Impact

Connessioni 2025 brought together a wide range of European and international partners, creating opportunities for sharing experience, piloting new strategies and follow-up actions. The interactive form allowed the participants not only to learn but also to stay motivated after the conference and continue working together.

For TDM 2000 Belgium, participation in initiatives like Connessioni 2025 reinforced our commitment to youth empowerment, peace, and security. The knowledge, inspiration and connections gained during the conference will be used to work with young people and youth organizations in Belgium.

Connessioni 2025 demonstrated that peace comes from trust, dialogue, cooperation and connections we establish. By investing in youth workers, educators and policy-makers the event was very helpful for putting these ideas into practice.
